FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (October 5, 2011)
Everyone’s a Winner with $5 Admission
to the Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park During the State Fair of Texas
Meet the baby bonnethead sharks now on exhibit
DALLAS – Step right up and save on admission when you visit the Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park during the State Fair of Texas. Located just off the Midway, in the shadow of the Texas Star Ferris wheel, the Children’s Aquarium has dropped admission to $5 for everyone age 3 and up. It is still free for kids 2 and younger. Be among the first to meet the new baby bonnethead sharks born in August and now on exhibit at the indoor shark tank.
“This is the first year that the Children’s Aquarium has been officially open for the State Fair,” said Gregg Hudson, executive director of the Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park and the Dallas Zoo. “We offered a sneak peek during last year’s fair -- but this year, guests can see the full effects of our extensive remodeling project. We have had a terrific response to the changes during the past year – and it looks like our bonnethead sharks like it too.”
The Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park, which officially opened in December 2010, is celebrating the 75th anniversary of the historic building at Fair Park. The facility provides kids with the opportunity to see the “greatest hits” of the sea -- sharks, jellyfish, eels, clown fish, and other species. The child-friendly design offers interactive exhibits for hands-on exploration, with a Coastal touch pool filled with horseshoe crabs, hermit crabs, lobsters, and other creatures. Venture to the outdoor pavilion to visit Stingray Bay, where guests can feed and interact with cownose rays in a touch pool. Nearby, they can watch huge stingrays and sharks swimming in a 50,000-gallon tank.
The Aquarium offers daily feeding demonstrations at 2:30 p.m. Visitors can feed cownose stingrays daily. The public feeding demonstration schedule is:
- Sundays: Sharks at Stingray Bay
- Mondays: Moray eel and spiny lobsters at the Nearshore Gallery
- Tuesdays: American alligators and alligator snapping turtle at the Freshwater Gallery
- Wednesdays: Sharks at Stingray Bay
- Thursdays: Sea turtle at the Shore Gallery
- Fridays: Sharks at Stingray Bay
- Saturdays: Piranhas at the Freshwater Gallery
During the State Fair of Texas, admission is $5 for everyone age 3 and older, and free for children age 2 and younger. (Regular prices are $8 for ages 12-64 and $6 for ages 3-11 and 65+.) The Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. during the State Fair of Texas. (Visitors arriving before 6:30 p.m. may remain until 7 p.m.) The Aquarium is located at 1462 First Ave.
